You may have noticed a lot of pompom action on my blog recently – well this is the reason!! My latest book Pompomania is out now (and on Amazonfor only £6.94 right now)
It’s full of lovely projects that I had great fun making last summer. Every morning I’d wake up with some new idea of how an everyday object could be pompomified and I wouldn’t stop until I had worked out how to do it. Here are a few of my favourites shot by the wonderful Joanna Henderson
To celebrate the launch of the book I hosted a very special Pompom Party where we all made pompoms, ate sweets and drank gin (perfect pompom making conditions if you ask me). We had a fab night and it was lovely to make some more pompom converts – I am serious about taking over the world one pom pom at a time …
I held the Pompom Party at the Smashbox Cosmetics shop and studio in London. Their super cool mural by artist Donald Robertson was the perfect backdrop
There was a lot of concentrating (and cocktails) as first time pompomers gave it a go.
Daisy Knights (jeweller extraordinaire) perfects her poms – and how cute are these scissors by Korbond?
Everyone should have this sort of flash when taking selfies!!
My new pompom converts …
A massive thanks to everyone who helped me make this party the best Pompom party ever:
Stylecraft – for providing the yarn (their special DK is the best for making pompoms. Such bright colours and so so soft)
Loveknitting.com – for all their support and goodie bags. It’s the perfect place to by your Stylecraft yarn
I’ll be posting more about the book in the coming weeks but to be in with a chance of winning a copy right now head over to Loveknitting.com blog now and take part in their little spot the difference competition … (closing date Friday 15th April)
Marie Claire Runway Spring Summer 16 has arrived, and it’s big, bold and beautiful! Here’s a little sneak peak of what you can expect …
There are a lot of bright colours and clashing prints coming up in the next few months so to celebrate this I joined forces with artist Camille Walalato create this cover based on her signature style of graphic prints and loud colours. Camille has decorated everything from buildings to bedrooms and table tennis bats so a magazine cover was relatively tame for her!
Yup, Fashion Month has started … The fash pack have all headed out to New York for the start of the crazy whirlwind that takes them from NYC to Paris via London and Milan. There they will find out what the designers have been creating and what they have planned for us to wear in 6 months time.
This all means that the Marie Claire Runway team have started planning the content for the next issue and it also reminded me I haven’t posted about the wonder that is the latest issue!
Once again it was a joy to work on … Design wise each issue is inspired by the shows … Autumn/Winter collections are often calmer and more grown up than their fun Spring/Summer counterparts and that’s something that I tried to reflect in the design.
Lovely trends … Both greys and neutrals and bright colours are in … so that’s good.
We went backstage at Fendi and took some beautiful pictures
We cut out a lot of shoes, bags, hats, belts, necklaces and sunglasses
and chatted to many designers.
Sophisticated and calm design for the most part anyway! We turned our insider gossip pages into a hommage to the teen mags we loved when we were young – this involved a couple of days re-reading old Smash Hits, Just Seventeens and Bliss’s (all in the name of research you understand.) We ended up with this crazy colourful (so well designed it looked quite bad) mini mag which is quite frankly genius!
Marie Claire Runway is on sale now or you can download straight to your iPad & iPhone, Kindle (just search the store for ‘marie claire magazine’), Nook or Google Nexus for only £2.99.
and welcome. I am an all round creative type relishing in a weird patchwork career of author, maker, illustrator and stylist. This blog is a snapshot of the things I like, things I do and things I see. There's lots on here to make and do so please
